This posting is for the purpose of Transfer List Placement for current city of Las Vegas employees who meet the transfer requirements below:
Appointive and Classified Transfer Requirements: Eligible to apply for transfer opportunities within the same classification in a different department OR a classification previously held if the classification is the same or a lower grade than current classification and employee achieved regular status (i.e. passed probation or qualifying period for classified).
Installs repairs and replaces all types of masonry structures, including those constructed of concrete, brick, block and stone; performs technical tasks related to assigned area of responsibility.Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory and management staff.
May act as a lead worker, exercising functional or technical supervision, including scheduling and assigning tasks, providing guidance, ensuring work is completed according to proper procedure, monitoring work progress, and reviewing results.
- Example of Duties
Essential Functions:
- Construct, repair, remove and replace concrete, brick, cinder block and stone structures such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks, walls, retaining walls, floors, driveways, slabs and steps.
- Coordinates work and equipment usage with other departments and staff to remove plaster and concrete work, prepare surfaces, excavate and subgrade for new or replacement installation.
- Excavates site for assigned project; compacts soil and apply suitable grading materials; builds and sets forms for walks and driveways; mixes and pours concrete; mixes and applies various types of mortar; smoothes and finishes concrete surfaces.
- Constructs and repairs brick structures, including bedding, fitting and leveling.
- Erects scaffolding to facilitate installation of tall structures.
- Installs playground safety mats.
- Operates manlift, compressor, jackhammer, air saw and other types of power equipment used in concrete work.
- Prepares for new projects; reviews and interprets blueprints; notifies applicable agencies of digging, and estimates type and quantity of materials and equipment required to complete project and order materials, if needed.
- Performs general repairs and maintenance on various park facilities and equipment, such as playgrounds, buildings, and fences.
- May train as well as oversee the work of others who assist in completing a project.

- Maintains records of work activities and materials used.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Minimum Requirements
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible masonry experience.
Training:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional specialized training in masonry or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of valid, appropriate driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion within the last five years of an OSHA-10 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in this classification.

Concrete materials, tools, equipment and standard practices of the mason's trade.
Brick, block, stone and other materials related to concrete work.
Accepted industry standards applicable to masonry work.
ADA standards as they relate to the work.
OSHA standards as well as other standard safety practices and equipment.
Concrete mix design principles and application.
Various materials used in brick and block work as well as "best applications."
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.Skills in:
